We’ve all probably had a gift card from our grandparents at some stage but this year they aren’t quite the gift the once were.

Some companies that are struggling due to Covid are putting restrictions on the cards and Topshop recently put a 50% limit on use of gift cards when purchasing. Also many cards have expiry dates according to Fairer Finance and reported in The Times this week.

These expiry dates are often well hidden in the small print and 65 of the 72 gift cards from leading retailers last year had expiry dates. So if you do get a gift card from your Granny for Christmas this year make sure you read the terms and conditions well other wise you might not be able to spend it and that’s a shame for you and for Granny!
